Energy Efficient Bulbs
The quantity and quality of light in our homes determines how well we see, work, and play. Energy-efficient lighting saves you money without sacrificing quality.
According to the Department of Energy, on average, we spend eight to 12 percent of our electric bill on lighting for our homes. As a nation, those costs average $37 billion annually.
An ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) will save about $30 over its lifetime and pay for itself in about six months. It uses 75 percent less energy and lasts about ten times longer than an incandescent bulb.
As part of the Home Energy Solutions Program, your CRI Technician will install up to 25 CFL bulbs in your home (program guidelines are subject to change without notice). This is part of the $75 copay so you can expect to see real energy and dollar savings immediately.
Also, it is important to know that there are significant lighting improvements being made every year to brighten our energy efficient future. For example: ENERGY STAR qualified Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting is a natural fit for cutting-edge renovation, new construction projects, or do-it-yourself upgrades. ENERGY STAR qualified residential LED lighting uses at least 75 percent less energy, lasts 25 times longer than incandescent lighting and provides optimal light color.
Let technology do the work for you! Check out these other advances for your home:
- Motion sensors for the exterior of the house turn on lights when they sense movement and then turn lights off after a period of time.
- Occupancy sensors activate lights when a person is in the room and then turns them off after the person leaves the room. They are excellent for bedrooms and kitchens.
- Photocells turn lights on and off in response to changing natural light levels indoors and outdoors.
- Timers automatically turn lights on and off indoors and outdoors.
The HES Program is a great start to improving the efficiency of your lighting. Please keep in touch with CRI and your energy company to stay enlightened about new and innovative lighting solutions as they become available.
